Located in Grand Teton National Park, in the US state of Wyoming, this lake is almost 12,000 years old and was formed as a result of glaciers flowing down the canyons. Despite being a tourist destination, a 2005 study stated that the water quality of the lake along with other lakes in the national park, is pristine and unaffected by water or air pollution.

7. Lake Tahoe

This large fresh water lake located in the Sierra Nevada, US, is the largest alpine lake (lakes or reservoirs at high altitudes) in North America. Furthermore, it is also the second deepest, and sixth largest by volume, in the US. But what is grabbing as a fact is that this lake was formed as long as 2 million years ago!
