Despite being a tourist destination, a 2005 study stated that the water quality of the lake along with other lakes in the national park, is pristine and unaffected by water or air pollution.

This large fresh water lake located in the Sierra Nevada, US, is the largest alpine lake (lakes or reservoirs at high altitudes) in North America. Furthermore, it is also the second deepest, and sixth largest by volume, in the US. But what is grabbing as a fact is that this lake was formed as long as 2 million years ago!
