Twitter Celebrates Sundar Pichai’s Appointment As CEO Of Google’s Parent Company, Alphabet

Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in a garage in 1998. According to The Washington Post, it is now worth $900 billion! On December 3, the co-founders announced that they were stepping down as CEO and President of parent company Alphabet and handing over the reins to Sundar Pichai.

The New York Times reports that the co-founders will still retain seats on the board and a majority of the company’s voting shares. In a letter, they informed everyone about their decision by saying,

Sundar Pichai is now the CEO of both Google and Alphabet. In addition to leading Google, he will also manage the parent company’s investment in the portfolio of Other Bets.

CNN reports that before taking over as Google’s CEO in 2015, Sundar Pichai handled responsibilities/roles like overseeing Chrome, product chief of Google and head of the Android operating system since his induction into the company in 2004.

According to Business Standard, 47-year-old Sundar Pichai was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu in the year 1972. He has studied in some of the most prestigious institutions in the country and the world, namely the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Stanford University and Wharton business school.
