The #MeToo movement that has gripped India this time is both liberating and emotionally stressful. The male population seems to have divided into groups of “Eyyy… this is all an attention seeking gimmick” and “We’re sorry this happened to you and we believe you.” Whereas a majority of women are just relieved that this long overdue change is finally here while grappling with the backlash from speaking out.
Within just a few weeks, many powerful men have been named and shamed and almost all of them have denied the allegations with immediate statements.
Funnily enough, apart from allegedly having a similar opinion on matters of consent and sexual misconduct, they also seem to share a love for being vague in their statements.
Until today it seemed as though “sanskari” Alok Nath might take the cake for the most confusing and vague statement with his “Neither am I denying this, nor do I agree with it.”
However, latest to the ‘Club of Possible Sexual Harassers’, Subhash Ghai seems set on giving him a run for his money. Here’s what he has to say in response to the allegations made against him:
Twitter collectively had this reaction to his statement:
Say what now? https://t.co/WqWBIWmBdI

Exactly!
And I wasn’t kidding when I said that was Twitter’s collective reaction to his tweet. See for yourself:

It is disheartening to see so many men who have been privy to such respect in their industries turn out to be possible wolves in sheep clothing. While it isn’t up to us to pass judgement on someone, it does become hard to believe their innocence when they give out such ambiguous statements.
