World Environment Day Treat: The ‘Strawberry Moon Eclipse’ Will Be Visible Tonight

Today is World Environment Day 2020 and coincidentally the universe is treating us with the beautiful sight of a lunar eclipse. Moongazing is quite calming as is but tonight will be a bit more special. Here’s why:

The full moon of June is known as the Strawberry Moon as the fruits ripen this month and the eclipse associated with it is the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse,” reports NDTV.

The Indian Express reports that the outer shadow of the Earth will fall on the moon and the planet’s shadow will block some of the sunlight from reaching it resulting in a “penumbral lunar eclipse”. The size of the moon will not reduce but it will get darker.

According to Hindustan Times, the chandra grahan will be visible tonight from 11.15 pm to 2.34 am (for a total of 3 hours and 18 minutes). However, if you want to capture its maximum glory then the perfect time is 12.54 am. No special equipment is required as it is safe to gaze at the moon with our bare eyes.
