In a world ridden with mistrust and crime, everyone believes trust is something that’s earned. You probably think twice before letting your friends or even your partner use your ATM card and that treasured PIN. So can you fathom an instance where you offer it to someone homeless on the streets?
Probably not in a million years.
But a man in Newcastle, UK did exactly this when he gave his trust and his ATM card to a homeless man he’d never met before!
The good Samaritan was sitting down to dinner with his friends outside Harry’s Bar when a bearded homeless man approached the troupe. The man asked the group of friends if they could spare any money for him. That is when one of the men decided to offer the homeless man his ATM card and PIN number and asked him to withdraw 20 pounds (approx. Rs. 1,800) for himself.
The homeless person withdrew exactly 20 pounds, complete with a receipt to boot as proof that he’d taken the exact amount suggested.
Jack Fada, (27) is a builder who was working on a neighbourhood nightclub and happened to capture the entire incident on camera, reports NDTV. His footage shows the man hastening to return the card to the good Samaritan.
Jack narrated the incident to local media, “I used to work in that area and you see homeless people asking for money round there all the time.
“I saw this man go up to a group of people and say ‘have you got any change for us?’ One of the blokes said ‘I’ve got nothing on me but take my card and my PIN number and take 20-pounds out for yourself.’
“I thought it was amazing so I got my phone out and started recording it. I got him on the way back from the cash point giving the guy the receipt to show he’d just got the 20 pounds,” Jack narrated.

The footage of the kind deed has gone viral since it was shared and netizens are all praise for the Samaritan and the homeless fella!
In fact, one of the commenters revealed that he knew the bearded man in the video. Tomas shared that the homeless person had a brother in a similar situation and that the duo were kind folks who were usually around Byker, Newcastle.
A legend indeed. And kudos to the homeless man who took only as much as he was asked to and warmed the cockles of our hearts! These strangers certainly proved that all we need is a smattering of hope and dash of kindness to survive the big bad world.
