This Horror Story Is Definitely Based On A True Event, Because I Am In It

I am not going to tell you that it’s the spookiest, most horrifying story you’ll ever read, but it sure as hell is based on a true event!

It was the summer of 2015, when I visited the magical land of Mumbai for the first time. It was a beautiful day, and I kind of fell in love with Mumbai at first sight. I was visiting my brother, who had rented an apartment with his friend in Andheri East. I stayed with him in his flat only for the rest of my trip. I planned to stay for a week, but had no idea that it was going to be more than just a visit. I went through a (mis)adventure, the most terrifying one till date.

If you’re used to enjoying Hollywood’s frayed agenda of promoting based-on-a-true-event-horror movies, you might get goosebumps while reading this one for one simple reason- nothing in this story is made up!

For a few nights I woke up around 2 A.M. for no reason, often because I heard someone pounding on the front door, and people talking around my head.

My rational mind always made me turn back over on the bed and go to sleep; as if constant flickering of washroom’s bulb, things moving from their places, someone trying to whisper in my ears, and that panic-stricken feeling of being watched by an invisible entity, wasn’t enough. I mean, you can always have a logical reason for these occurrences, right? Well, let your logic go to sleep, while I tell you about that fateful night.

It was 2.45 A.M. I was working on an article. My brother was asleep in the same room. I started hearing whispers of men and women, as if they were in a gathering, or a party.

I couldn’t figure out what they were talking about. There was just muttering. I decided to ignore the voices, like always, only this time, they started growing louder and louder. I got a bit apprehensive, and so I thought to fall asleep, for that is the best solution to all the problems.

I shut my laptop, switched off the lamp, and moved on to my side of the bed. I closed my eyes and thought about good things, in a hope that whatever I was hearing was nothing but my mind playing games with me. It worked. The whispers faded. I sighed in relief. It was just my mind, and the dark of the night, playing games with my heart.

Well, not really.

I woke up suddenly, around 3.30 A.M, jolting out of my peaceful sleep. I felt someone pulling me out of my bed.

The whispers became louder than ever, and my blood ran cold when I saw the lamp (the one I had switched off before falling asleep) switching itself on and off. In case you’re wondering, I did feel like one of the characters of Paranormal Activity. And then there was one voice, that I heard, very, very clearly.

That was it for me. I screamed with all my might and woke my brother up. Within 5 minutes, his roommate was in our room, who had also unplugged the lamp, but the whispers weren’t truly gone.

It was already 4 A.M when I was done explaining my experience(s) to my brother.

It was only when I told him every little thing that I had noticed in his apartment that he showed me a brown scar on his back.

It seemed as if somebody had clawed his nails into his skin. He told me he woke up one day and noticed this scar on his back, and yes, it did hurt. His roommate had the same scar too, only, it didn’t look as agonizing. They still don’t know how they got them. They still don’t have an explanation for them.

They don’t live there anymore for obvious reasons, and for the very reasons I decided to cut my trip short and go back. It’s all fun listening about these stories, but when you experience something like this, that’s when shit gets real.

I’m not a superstitious person. I don’t believe in ghosts or anything that falls under the meaning of paranormal, but this incident is something I’ve no explanation for. I wasn’t drunk or high that day. Strong magnetic forces in the house, maybe…maybe not? I’m no expert. But the scars? How to explain that. Some insect perhaps? I have my doubts.

If you have an explanation, please do leave a comment. I need a closure.
