13 Things You Should Not Be Doing To Your Hair

Stop! Because thou shall sin.

That brush is your enemy and you don’t even know it!

There are so many things/sins we do every time we touch our hair and they need to stop right now if you want a healthy and luscious mane which fetches you compliments everywhere you go.

Here are a few examples.

1. Brushing your hair too often and often doing it from root to tip

Doing this is only going to make your hair weaker at the root due to the constant pull. Also by brushing from root to tip, you run into too many tangles which you don’t have the patience to sit and solve so you use brute force which only results in breaking most of your beautiful hair. The best way of going about this by starting in the middle.

2. Keeping your hair braided or ponytailed for excessive time

Give your hair some time to relax, the constant pull and the constraint of the band will make the foundation of your hair weak.

3. Using styling products too much or too many of them

Keep off the styling products especially those with a chemical base on a regular basis. The serums you thought are harmless, are actually not.

4. Brushing wet hair vigorously

Wet hair is more fragile than dry hair as the follicles are yet adjusting to the softened scalp. If you brush your hair vigorously while it’s wet, you are bound to lose more hair than you bargained for.

5. Tying your wet hair

Oh, why oh why would you do this to your hair? Doing this will only keep them wet for a longer time hence making them weaker. Let them breathe and dry in their own time.

6. Heat styling your wet hair

The water on your hair will evaporate but will take the essence of your hair with it. It’s better you let them dry on their own.

7. Washing hair on a daily basis

This will rid your hair of all the natural oils seeped into your scalp necessary for the goodness of your hair. Your hair will become excessively dry if you continue doing this.

8. Applying the conditioner all over your head including the scalp

The conditioner is only meant for the length of your hair, not your skin. If applied to the scalp, it may result in more loose follicles and loss of hair. The right way of using the conditioner is applying it to your hair from the mid of your length to the tip.

9. Washing your hair with hot water

Heat will make your hair become coarser in structure and you might lose the natural texture of your hair. Cold hair keeps the molecules tight giving your hair smoother texture.

10. Avoiding the oils and a balanced diet

Oiling is necessary, however much you hate the smell of them. They keep your hair smooth and nourished. What is important is a good diet which will provide nourishment from the inside because oils can only do so much from the outside.

11. Picking out the split ends and avoiding a trim

I have so many friends who keep doing, and I have too. I know those split ends hurt your eyes, but this is not the way to combat them. It’ll only make your hair more prone to split ends. The best way to get this nuisance out of the way is trimming your hair time to time even if you’re trying to grow your hair longer because that’s the only thing that guarantees you longer and healthier hair.

12. Not protecting your hair from the sun

The same thing, heat is bad. It makes your hair frizzy and coarse in the days we live in, the environment isn’t really too friendly to our health.

13. Towel drying your hair

The friction causes your hair to break more so it’s better you let them dry on their own time or invest in a soft or silken cloth to dry your hair.
