SRK Speaks Of Insecurities In His Early Days & Visiting His Parents’ Graveyard At Night

Shah Rukh Khan needs no introduction. A regular college student from Delhi who lost his parents at a young age moved to the city of dreams, Mumbai to try his hand at acting three decades ago and the rest is history!

Shah Rukh made his acting debut with a TV show called Fauji and there was no looking back for the actor ever since. He steadily rose to fame with time. He gave some phenomenal performance in cult classics like DDLJ, Baazigar, Baadshah among others and established himself as the ‘King of Romance‘ in the industry.

Thirty years later, Shah Rukh stands tall as one of the most popular cine star cine stars around the globe. Talking about his early days in films, Shah Rukh told NDTV,

“When I saw myself for the first time on screen, this was for the rushes. Rushes are dailies. You shoot the scenes and you see the negatives. That was the time when we had negatives. So, I was looking at Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman rushes in RK Studio. And I realized I am so ugly.”

“My hair was so bad! I was doing pathetic acting in front of actors such as Nana Patekar, Amrita Singh, and Juhi Chawla. Around 4ish, there used to be a flight of Air India that offered a 25 percent discount. I used to get those tickets back in the days. I bought one and went to the airport realizing that I cannot be an actor. However, Juhi and Aziz (director Aziz Mirza) convinced me saying ‘Final would be better’,” he added.

Though the film turned out to be a blockbuster, the superstar still believes that his friends lied. “However, they lied. I never looked better. I kept looking bad. But I feel extremely fortunate as people have loved me so much,” he said.

The extremely down to earth superstar said that he still can’t believe the fact that he is a ‘star’. “I still have a hard time believing it. I never think of myself as a star, sometimes I have to behave like a star, which is not interesting. But I love my job,” Shah Rukh said.

Shah Rukh also talked about the fond memories of his parents he shares with Delhi.

“Whenever I sit on a plane to come to Delhi, be it for a day or for a couple of hours, the one thought I have is that my mother and father are here. I go and visit them at the graveyard late in the night,” he told TOI.

“People often tell me that I have become a Mumbaikar but I don’t know how to express but Delhi can never go out of me because my parents are here and that is the biggest memory for me,” Shah Rukh added.

“I left Delhi for Mumbai after my mother passed away. So, I feel like I have their blessings with me. Sometimes I do get lazy and take their blessings from far away because you know they are parents, they will understand. I understand too when my kids don’t meet me for long but yes, the only thing I get extremely nostalgic about them,” he shared.

Apart from acting, Shah Rukh Khan has won hearts with his simplicity. And his humble nature surely makes him the ‘King Khan’ that fans fondly call him.
