However, an international squash club thought it was a great idea to give the female winners of a Spanish tournament vibrators and hair removing creams as prizes along with trophies.
According to sources, the male winners of the Asturias Squash Championship, organised by Squash Oviedo, received trophies like every other winner. The female winners did receive trophies, but along with it came a bizarre selection of sex toys, hair removal kits, and electric foot files, because why not!
Have you ever imagined our male athletes receiving condoms as the prize for winning a tournament? I bet you didn’t!
After the four female winners complained about the prizes, a massive outrage sparked whereby people did not flinch from calling out the extremely sexist intent behind such a gesture.
Maribel Toyos, a spokesman for the Asturias Squash Federation, said, “It’s the height of sexism. We had no idea the women were going to receive these gifts.”
Sources revealed that The scandal has already led to three resignations of people linked to the organisation of the yearly event, including that of Squash Oviedo president Nacho Manzano.
Issuing an apology to a local newspaper now ex-president Manzano said, “We feel terribly ashamed by what’s happened and we understand the gifts were not the appropriate ones but it was never our intention to offend anyone.”
