This ‘Nano Particle’ Eyedrop Ensures You Say Bye-Bye To Your Spectacles For Good

Wearing spectacles every day is a hassle and all my bespectacled beauties would vouch for me when I say, it’s super fun to wear at first because of all the attention you get from your peers and classmates. However, things go from breezy to annoying super quick as your new-found love for spectacles fades away when you’re compelled to wear them EVERYWHERE. YOU. GO.

While the most common way to get rid of spectacles is to go under the laser and get flashbacks of ‘Final Destination’ or wear contact lenses, which are a world of pain in their own way. Not that I expected little glass-like thingies that go in your eye to be comfortable but you get my point.

I can sit here and rant about the woes of wearing spectacles the entire day but I chose to be the harbinger of good news instead!

Ophthalmologist David Smadja of the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem has used nanoparticles to correct vision. He collaborated with a few scientists at the Bar-Ilan University and developed eye drops filled with nanoparticles to treat patients who suffer from near and far-sightedness.

According to Newsweek, Smadja presented the team’s accomplishments on Research Day in the centre. However, the possible side-effects and the method of using these eye-drops are still unknown.

The treatment has produced results and corrected mild vision of 10 pigs during trials. As the drops have not yet been tested on humans, there is no information whether the solution works on humans as well.

Ophthalmologist Robert Honkanen of SUNY Stony Brook Medical School and Hospital is of the opinion that long-term cornea health and efficacy is yet to be determined before declaring it as official treatment. He also believes that they might be able to expand the efficiency as right now it’s just known to correct mild vision problems.

If this method of treatment is available worldwide, millions of people would benefit from it. Could this be a sequel to I-Origins? We’ll just have to wait and see!
