The coronavirus lockdown has hit the Indian economy hard. While all the private and public sector employees have been either given work from home or paid leaves following the shutdown due to the pandemic, the daily wage workers remain the worst affected section as far as financial loss is concerned.
Though the state governments all over the country are taking immediate steps like increasing the ration limit or providing free food to help the poor fight the lockdown, various sports and Bollywood personalities have come forward to their bit too.
Accordingly, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has pledged to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh to the poor, reports NDTV. He’ll be collaborating with a local rice brand for the same and helping those taking shelter in government schools and rain baseras.
“Hope this initiative of Ganguly would encourage other citizens of the state to take up similar initiatives to serve the people of our state,” a statement from the CAB read.
Ace shuttler PV Sindhu donated Rs 5 lakh each to the Chief Minister’s Relief Funds of the states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to help those in need following coronavirus outbreak in the country, reports TOI.
