Sourav Ganguly Saves Mango Tree, Twitter Recalls Dada’s Balcony Moments

Cyclone Amphan hit the eastern coast of India on Wednesday and left at least 72 people dead before moving to Bangladesh. The India Meteorological Department has now confirmed that the super cyclone has weakened but not before it wreaked havoc in the states of West Bengal and Odisha by uprooting trees, damaging telecom and electricity poles resulting in power cuts, reports Business Standard.

According to India Today, the mango tree at the residence of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly, who lives in the Behala area of Kolkata, was also hit by the torrential rains and strong winds. The family had to pull it back from the balcony.

The incident reminded sports fans of Dada’s iconic celebration at Lord’s balcony after the 2002 NatWest final against England, reports NDTV. Many remarked on his ‘romance’ with balconies.

While this particular tree was saved, much of the destruction caused by Cyclone Amphan cannot be reversed so easily. So let’s help in whatever small way we can. Stay safe, West Bengal & Odisha.
