The country is mourning the horrible death of the 3-year-old girl from Aligarh who was murdered by two neighbouring men over a money dispute with her parents. According to TOI, the minor was brutally strangled and her mutilated body was dumped in a garbage bin near her home. Her decomposing body was discovered after dogs were spotted nibbling at it. The two accused have been arrested.
The terrible news has given rise to a wave of outrage nationwide where people have taken on social media to express their anger over the 2 accused men. Condemning them for their heinous act, thousands of people are demanding justice for the little girl and severe punishment for the accused.
Among the many tweets is one by actress Sonam Kapoor which has attracted severe criticism by Ashoke Pandit, filmmaker and currently the President of the Indian Film & Television Director’s Association.
Here’s a look at Sonam’s tweet:
Replying to her tweet, Ashoke Pandit slammed her for being biased towards the incident, comparing it to her reaction towards the Kathua rape and murder case.
In case you are wondering which tweet Pandit is referring to, here’s a look at Sonam’s tweet after the Kathua rape case:
It wasn’t long before Sonam noticed Pandit’s tweet and soon the two engaged in a Twitter spat!
While the argument between the two came to a halt, Ashoke Pandit’s tweets triggered many other people to call out on Sonam’s alleged hypocrisy. Soon comments started pouring in criticising Sonam.
REALLY @sonamakapoor? Is that why you made that professional placard shoot holding all of ‘Hindusthan’ responsible for the death of the little girl in #Kathua, complete with full make-up, designer off-shoulder outfit, hair extensions and mood lighting? To gain good Karma? pic.twitter.com/t1BMtgaBXt

While the online naming and shaming continue, this shifts the focus from the main issue at hand. We hope people realise that spreading hate for each other’s statements isn’t a solution.
