Sonali Bendre has always stood out with her grace and elegance. Over the last month, she proved that there is a well of resilience in her as well. Ever since she announced her cancer diagnosis, the actress has given us glimpses of her treatment journey. She has written poignant posts for her family members who have stood by her unwavering through these tough times.

Her emotional post about revealing her illness to her son and the way he took it is one that still tears me up.

Over the duration of this one month, we’ve also witnessed the drastic changes that have come to her hairstyle. She went from having long hair to a short bob and then later, an even shorter cut.

Yesterday, she posted another picture with Gayatri Oberoi and Sussanne Khan, supposedly taken by Hrithik Roshan, that shows her sporting a bald look.

Along with the picture she penned a moving post giving us an insight into her mental state while going through her treatment:

This is me. And in this moment, I am really happy. People give me strange looks when I say that now, but it’s true and I’ll tell you why. I am now paying attention to every moment, looking for every opportunity to find joy and #SwitchOnTheSunshine.

Yes, there are moments of pain and low energy, but I am doing what I like, spending time with people I love, and feeling very loved and happy.

She continues onto expressing her gratitude and love for her friends who have stood by her through it all:

“I am extremely grateful to my friends, my pillars of strength, who at a moment’s notice, arrived to be with me and help me through this. In between their busy schedules they find time to visit, call, message, FaceTime… basically never leaving a moment for me to feel alone.

Thank you for showing me what true friendship is. #HappyFriendshipDay, ladies. Blessed to have you all in my life (including the ones not in the picture… You know who you are).”

She ends the post joking that she now spends far less time fussing over getting ready since she doesn’t need to fuss over her hair anymore.

At a time when it would be easy to give into the darkness of the misfortune that has come into her life, Sonali has been a beacon of positivity. The actress is a perfect example of how to look on the bright side even during the darkest times. Keep being you Sonali, and get well soon.
