‘Have Better Role Models’ Sona Mohapatra On Not Buying Products Endorsed By Jacqueline Fernandez

You might be aware that actor Jacqueline Fernandez is currently entangled in a huge Rs 200 crore money extortion case and is being interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate. The case revolves around con-man Sukesh Chandrasekhar who had allegedly given expensive gifts worth Rs 5.71 crore to the actor in his association with her, reported The Indian Express.

Singer Sona Mohapatra recently took a dig at Jacqueline Fernandez on Twitter. Sharing a picture of a makeup brand that has the actor as its ambassador, the singer claimed that she refused to buy any products from the brand.

“My personal decision is to avoid any brand with a brand ambassador of this kind. Person of substance, have a worthy skill set, something to admire? No? If not, please don’t sell me anything with your vacuous self,” she wrote.

“Apart from creating a society with toxic role models for the coming gen, we also kill any genuine commitment to the gender equality movement. The uphill task is made even tougher. These 5/10 ‘women’, taking ‘shortcuts’ to ‘success’ become the stereotype to sing about,” she further added.

Speaking to Hindustan Times about her tweet, Sona Mohapatra claimed that she wants youngsters to have better role models.

“Sometimes I feel, to make a larger point about having better role models in society and children of our generation not running after numbers, pretty faces, gym bodies, and botox faces.”

She further revealed that she saw the makeup brand at an airport and felt that it was “another level of shamelessness”.

“This has specifically triggered me after I saw it at the airport, on my way back from my Kolkata gig and I feel like there’s another level of shamelessness. I don’t know if you are aware but I know this one, she used to come to my house and it used to be weird. This is just bizarre that the whole list has come out from the ED. The list of accepted gifts range from Gucci, Chanel, private jet rides to a house, Arabian racehorse, and whatnot, but the next day she was there grinning and smiling at Salman’s Iftar party because obviously, the belief is that we are untouchable and we can just continue just the way we have been following on Instagram.”

She urged youngsters to own their own luxury through hard work and aspire for better things in life.

“I rather not make it personal but put out a fun message in a way that kids or whoever people reading in, aspire for better things than this- earn your own luxury. Hard work is the key. We cannot be idolizing and give so much to such painted dolls and celebrities.”
