A total of 3 solar eclipses were seen in the year 2019 but the last one was a truly special treat for everyone and not just because it happened a day after Christmas. It was also an ‘annular’ one. Essentially, in this type of ‘Surya Grahan’, the moon is able to cover only 97% of the sun. As a result, a ‘ring of fire‘ is visible as a halo around the moon.
The last solar eclipse of the year was visible in India yesterday between 8 am and 12.30 pm. Southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka were able to witness it in all its glory and the rest of the country saw a partial one. However, in many areas, the cloudy sky put a dampener on things.
