With the coming of the coronavirus pandemic, ‘social-distancing’ and ‘quarantine‘ have probably the most used words in the past few weeks. And since India is under a complete lockdown at the moment, people have been inspired to put their thinking caps on and ask themselves important questions like ‘What is the purpose of life?’, ‘What is meant to be?’, and ‘What is the Hindi equivalent of the word social-distancing?’.
You read that right! According to a report by India Today, people on the internet have found the Hindi version of the word ‘social distancing’ – ‘Tan-doori’, where ‘Tan’ meaning ‘body’ and ‘Doori’ means distance!
Even actor Paresh Rawal and Rajdeep Sardesai went on to tweet about the discovery. Have a look at the tweets here:

The remarkable humour and creativity of Indians even in tough times is a stand out. So what’s Hindi word for ‘social distancing’ folks? Ans: TAN-DOORI! 😊 (by the way, our leaders do need to find a way to create a Hindi/regional adaptation to all corona related angrezi words)
