As Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) locked horns yesterday in the Maharashtra Derby, India witnessed MS Dhoni taking the field as just a player for the first time in the ten seasons of IPL. Disheartening as it was, everyone like me was still happy to see their idol play. He was also involved in dropping some sick burns to the commentator, Kevin Pietersen.
Getting to the match, Ashoke Dinda tried very hard to give the match away by shelling 30 runs in the last over of Mumbai’s innings. Thankfully for Pune, the heroics of Ajinkya Rahane (60 off 34) and especially skipper Steve Smith (84* off 54) made sure that they come out on top at the end.
While Steve Smith really played a brilliant knock, Harsh Goenka (brother of RPS owner Sanjeev Goenka) went a little overboard in praising him. Applauding his innings, he blatantly disrespected MS Dhoni by this tweet.
As soon as he tweeted, Twitterverse started thrashing Goenka for his insensitive comments on the former Indian skipper.
1. Can’t argue that
In your dreams… No batsman can overshadow Dhoni. Take him out your team and see the fan count.. maybe you will get to know the reality

2. I didn’t hear anyone chanting Smith’s name
Looks like @hvgoenka didn't like the Dhoni Dhoni chants in Stadium today. Ha ha, You have to live with it this season too #MSDhoni

3. The disrespecting part wasn’t really necessary
If #MSDhoni Scores More Than Steve Smith In Next Match, Will You Make Him Captain Again? You Can Praise Without Disrespecting.Better Learn It pic.twitter.com/L9ljJOvPiJ

4. The truth has been spoken
@hvgoenka Sir without @msdhoni @RPSupergiants is nothing
We follow the team due to him and not Smith
Take your comments back sir#brainfade #dhoni

7. This is only the start
@hvgoenka @hvgoenka disrespecting #MSDhoni to praise Smith's inning is disgusting. don't forget there are 13 more matches to go for pune! #RPSvMI

9. Yes, that happened yesterday
U can only see crowd cheering for a wicket of their own team when the next batsmen is #MsDhoni 🙏🙏

10. Hell, even Pakistanis came out in MSD’s support
@hvgoenka Shame on u really we Pakistanis admire MS dhoni alot he's the charm of India he's the LEGEND nd today I'm so sad that he's plyng 4 ths team
— Emraan Khan (@Emraan10khan11) April 6, 2017
After getting mercilessly thrashed, Goenka deleted his tweet and started apologising.
If anything, being in MSD’s presence would have helped Smith’s game for the better.
And after clearing his conscience, Mr Goenka went to sleep.
Just like Anu Kapoor once said, Mr Goenkla should remember when it comes to MS Dhoni, “Is cheez ke upar nahi bolne ka”.
