Remember the fart joke of ‘sursuri pranghatakam’ from Chatur’s speech in 3-Idiots?
Well, as it works out, they are not really pranghatakam but actually good for your health! No, this is not a prank. Yes, I am not kidding.
A recent study by the University of Exeter in England has revealed that smelling farts are actually good for your health.
Here’s how: hydrogen sulfide which is the gas produced in our body after the food is broken down by the bacteria could safeguard our body from many diseases including deadly cancer. The gas has a heroic role in preventing mitochondrial damage.
Dr. Mark Wood, a professor at the University said in a statement, “Although hydrogen sulfide gas is well known as a pungent, foul-smelling gas in rotten eggs and flatulence, it is naturally produced in the body and could, in fact, be a healthcare hero with significant implications for future therapies for a variety of diseases.”
The studies have boldly marked that while the gas can harm human body in large doses, a small whiff can actually help by reducing the risk of cancer, strokes, arthritis and even dementia.
So the next time you can’t hold the fart in, let it go (and hope it is a smelly one) and then gracefully allow the audience to thank you for benefitting their lives!
Ps- Sniffing it or not is a completely personal choice. 😉
