Shweta Tiwari Speaks Of Her Love For TV & Her Unconventional Choice Of Roles

We know her as ‘Prerna Bajaj’ from the primetime family drama, ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’. Shweta Tiwari, the actress who became a household name after she first appeared on the television show ‘Kaahin Kissii Roz’ still calls television her ‘first love’.

Unlike many TV actors who yearn to be called a ‘movie star’ and move from the small screen to star in films and web shows, Shweta says being tagged as a “TV actor” doesn’t bother her at all. “It has given me everything — name, fame and identity, and people still call me Prerna of Kasautii. I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” she says in an interview with HT.

Although the actress admits that content on TV needs to be ‘relatable and portray characters in a more progressive way’, she says that she can never quit TV.

“Some actors consider TV to be a smaller medium but that’s wrong as times have changed and it is a much bigger medium now.”

The 39-year-old actress further adds that since TV serials are now being aired online too, they ‘will always remain a daily dose of entertainment for people.’ “It has its reach in small towns and cities and even across the world in different dubbed languages. Because of this, many movie actors keep coming to TV shows for the promotion of their work. We shouldn’t underrate it,” she adds.

The actress who has also participated in several reality TV shows like ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3’ and ‘Bigg Boss 4’ says that she is ‘still labelled for her unconventional choice of roles.’

“People also questioned my choices, especially when I played a prostitute in Begusarai. And even my web show, which required me to do bold scenes, raised many eyebrows.”

However, she adds that she can do everything for her work. “But as an actor, it is my job. Work is worship, and even if I have to eat non-vegetarian on the day of my fast, I will do it.”

The actress is currently seen as Guneet Sikka in ‘Mere Dad Ki Dulhan’ and has also featured in ALTBalaji’s web show ‘Hum Tum And Them’.
