When you’re in a relationship with someone and it starts to fall apart, unless a big evident incident, we aren’t able to figure out what actually is going wrong. Self-introspection or a third person’s view often helps us pinpoint the places that need work.
Bollywood actor Shefali Shah who believes in calling a spade a spade and calling out the ills of society recently spoke about a massive deal breaker in a relationship.

According to the ‘Darlings’ actor, disrespect is a big no-no in a relationship. In a video that’s now going viral, the actor elaborated:
“You know disrespect can start on a very light level of humor and you don’t realize it. It starts as ‘Arey wo toh aisa hi karta hai…arey wo toh aise hi karti hai…arey isko thodi na samajh aayega’ which is not funny after a point of time. You wanna say something and if you have to hold it back, then there is a serious problem. If you start thinking that I really want to share something but let it go as its reaction would be bad.”
“If you’re worried about being yourself in front of somebody; good, bad, ugly then there is a problem. In a relationship, you’re supposed to feel safe and secure, and accepted. You should not be worrying that it’s good but let it be.”

I second her statement. Love and respect are the important pillars of a relationship and if that starts to crumble, it becomes a problem.
People online also thought that it’s always good to nip it in the bud before it starts to become toxic.
She's right. It starts under the garb of jokes.
"arrey mein toh mazaak kar raha tha / thi aur tum bura maan gaye"
Nip it in the bud. Define boundaries. https://t.co/U4I0MEIn7H— Kaveri 🇮🇳 (@ikaveri) August 25, 2022

Disrespect comes in many forms in any relation, this is one the wonderful message, if you have to hold something back just because you’re afraid to share with the person that means there is a problem..🙏 https://t.co/SGljRKXqMk

Disrespect in form of humour is still disrespect. Verbal abuse disguised as love and joke is still an abuse. There is never a need to tolerate it nor trying to justify to yourself why you should be okay with it. I'm saying this to myself as much as to whoever see this. https://t.co/dtEVA96N0y

All those snide comments wrapped in humour…. Don't let them slide. Because that's what people really think of you. Don't let disrespect slide.
Be selfish and save yourself the agony. https://t.co/XFtz6RffJH— Heer (@HarmonyRyoBlaze) August 25, 2022
This is true for all relationships but we can't cut off all relationships like friendship and love relationship, so minimising the border is a good soln https://t.co/Drzy7mZniv

People should definitely think before they say. But most importantly, one should never encourage this kind of behavior. Point it out politely, express how you feel about it but never brush it under the carpet of humor. Disrespect is never funny.
