As regional films from the South have gained a loyal fanbase across the country, even amongst Hindi-film lovers, an ever-lasting debate about Bollywood versus South films has been ongoing on social media. While films like RRR, Pushpa, KGF, etc. have been lauded by the Hindi-speaking audience, good films like Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Jug Jugg Jeeyo have been called insufferable by many critics.
The latest on the list is the Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Shamshera’ which was released over the weekend. Many film critics have claimed that the movie uses the stereotypical 80s Bollywood trope of a Robin Hood figure and a son fulfilling his father’s dream to free his people from tyranny.
Mostly, there have been savage reviews by film critics floating around social media. However, many people online claimed that the film isn’t as bad as the critics say it is. In fact, some even expressed that if the film had been a South film, the audience would be raving about it calling it a “mass entertainer”.

It's funny how majority of audience & top tier dalaal critics are criticising #Shamshera by calling it "outdated 80s plot" when they were the same people who celebrated mediocre south projects as MASTERPIECE which were simply modernised version of 70s/80s Amitabh Bachchan films!

Not defending #Shamshera but had this been a south indian film with same quality or helmed by a filmmaker down south, it would have been termed as "Rowdy" & "Mass" by our so called great trade analysts & critics.

I absolutely loved the music. Almost all songs are superb, especially Fitoor, Hunkara and Title Track. It was so good to watch Ranbir on big screen after so long. ❤️ I feel had Shamshera been a South film or something, it would be lauded as a massy entertainer.
