Shahid Kapoor Talks About The Anger & Aggression Shown In His Next & Calls It An Honest Film

The trailer of the much-anticipated movie ‘Kabir Singh‘ came out yesterday and it offered a glimpse into the protagonist’s dark world of heartbreak and pain. The film stars Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in lead roles and has been directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

The way Dr Kabir Rajveer Singh deals with pain (using alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, violence and abuse) and treats women has raised some questions concerning toxic masculinity.

The Indian Express quoted Shahid saying that the character was raw and real to the core.

“I really want people to see the honesty of Kabir Singh. Don’t judge the film or its language from the trailer. Watch the film for its soul. Only then you’ll know the headspace and journey of the character… Cinema is meant to showcase different people having different experiences. It is not about wonderful perfect people. I think we all are imperfect in our own ways.”

According to Hindustan Times, he further clarified,

“‘Kabir Singh’ is an intense love and beautiful love story and please don’t get drawn into the fact that there is alcohol, cigarettes and things like that are shown in the film. Sometimes to show the pain a man goes through, you need to use certain things to help the audience understand that and there is a lot of honesty in the film.”

A lot of movie buffs fear that the film could potentially encourage such aggressive and abusive behaviour. To which the actor replied,

“To me, watching a film like Kabir Singh will help you understand that when you allow yourself to be affected by those things, it can take you a path of destruction. It is a warning not to take that route.”

When asked about the Censor board’s certification, he said,

“We believe there is no reason for us not to get a ‘UA’ certificate. I think it is important that today we are able to tell stories honestly, without sugar coating them. I think the audience is mature enough to understand that.”

The Telugu remake of ‘Arjun Reddy’ is scheduled for a summer release on 21st June 2019. Are you excited to watch the film?
