It was India v/s Australia at the Women’s T20 World Cup held in Melbourne on Sunday and the country was left disappointed after India lost to the Aussies by 85 runs (184-99), reports News18. It was heartbreaking to see the Indian cricketers in tears, especially the extremely talented 16-year-old Shafali Verma whose performance has been nothing but laud-worthy in the tournament.
According to a report by India Today, as footage of a tearful Shafali Verma being consoled by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Harleen Deol was seen by people across the country, supportive messages started pouring on social media. People took to Twitter to express how Shafali’s achievements at a mere age of 16 deserve immense respect and asked her to “chin up”.

Most 16 year old have no clue what to do in life, this girl had a whole nation watching her, banking their hopes on her. The inexperience in that age was going to show up some day, unfortunately it showed up at the worst possible time.
Chin up, Shafali Verma ❤️🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/XFMBXaZyYS

At 16, my achievement was getting out of my braces and glasses phase.
At 16, Shafali Verma played in a T20 World Cup final in front of 95 thousand people.

Shefali Verma carried the entire team throughout the tournament just like Rohit Sharma in WC 19 and both of their efforts went in vain. #ICCWomensT20WorldCup2020 #INDvsAUS pic.twitter.com/Z7gzYAwPdw

Cricketer Smriti Mandhana spoke about how Shafali should hold her head high even after their defeat.
“Shafali and I were standing almost together when we were receiving our medals. She was in tears. I told her she had to be really proud of the kind of campaign she’d had. When I played my first World Cup at the age of 16, I couldn’t hit the ball 20 per cent of what she can hit. She has to be really proud of the way she played,” Smriti said.
Despite their loss to Australia, team India has made us extremely proud with their performance. Let this defeat only be a learning experience and may team India come back stronger next time!
