Many of us spend a major chunk of our day at work, and it’s not all rosy. From ‘office politics’ to overtime, desis have been very vocal about their unpopular opinions on our work culture. Now, another aspect of this discussion was picked up as a topic of discussion by desi Twitter, and it involves an issue regarding our lunch break. Yes, you heard that right.
A Twitter user named @gulshandevaiah shed light on how employees with different job profiles are segregated in the dining areas at some work spaces.
“What bothers me more than Nepotism in Bollywood” S1 E02:
Sets that segregate people based on their job profile with separate dining areas.— Gulshan Devaiah (@gulshandevaiah) June 28, 2021
And here’s how people responded to the tweet:
1. Some users shared their experiences with the same.
Yep. Mostly true there are very few exceptions. Apparently the guy who I am working with 12 hours a day can't eat sitting beside me. Never made sense, always get into arguments. My crew will eat with me. Whichever tent is theirs, that's mine. Same with loo-s. https://t.co/onCPDOI3uw

Hahaha… Yes exactly. I’ve worked as an unpaid AD in one television show for biggest production house. Each crew has their different menu. Spot definitely not having paneer, sweet or any another food item that probably camera or production crew are having.

Agree… I was once part of A .. B… and C food areas.

2. Others shed light on its existence and prevalence.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s set believes in Method Acting for the crew too. Even the spot boy of one specific group of payscale is not allowed to fetch water for someone from another group of lower payscale.
No wonder the sets are like Taj Mahal, new ways of cutting their hands off.— Momita Jaisi (@momitajaisi) June 28, 2021
Happens in Hollywood as well. There’s a class hierarchy when it come to who eats where. Some productions also have different pay scales for extras.

This is the absolute worst. How the hell are you supposed to be a team if you're eating separately and eating (sometimes) different food? https://t.co/3mh5lEsN8O

very prevalent . segregation based on job profile and 'separate dining areas ' . https://t.co/A8jZmcJjbx

Reminds me of that Friends episode where Joey works at Ross’ museum and goes against the rules of White Coats and Blue Coats pic.twitter.com/yyFXKxxHiL

3. Some even talked about how the food quality also differs in some cases.
Not just separate dining area but also separate quality of food. 🙁

+1 and often different items/quality of food for "A" crew and "B" crew. Worst part of an already horrible set culture prevalent in our industry. Whenever I'm lucky enough to produce things that have large sets & big crews, everyone gets the same food. https://t.co/HUzy6xZv2z

Kollywood: Hold my beer, we have different food based on their job profile. https://t.co/kaCLt6YfQp
