Homes for senior citizens often organize celebrations with music and dancing so that they can have a bit of fun. Sometimes, they even hold weddings for people who found a second shot at love and marriage. An old age home in Gujarat though did something even better.
According to The Times of India, on February 27, senior citizens of Jeevan Sandhya old age home in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, ‘adopted’ kids from an orphanage.
In a novel initiative, senior citizens in Jeevan Sandhya old age home in #Ahmedabad will spend some time weekly with children in an orphanage – under supervision of a trust. In the event, a Kolkata-based couple also got custody of a 3-month old girl. pic.twitter.com/rFXyDT2qoQ

As part of the initiative, the elderly will visit the ‘Shishu Gruh’ home for orphans every week and spend time with the children they have ‘adopted’. A Jeevan Sandhya official was quoted saying,
“We are hopeful that with this initiative, they would feel that warmth – even for a few hours – to find purpose in life.”
C K Patel, the President of Ahmedabad District Probation and Aftercare Association (that runs the orphanage) added, “They have so much love to give and I am sure it would benefit both the groups emotionally.”
A heartwarming initiative.
Grandparents and grandchildren "adopt" each other. Grandparents who are either abandoned or left to lead a solitary life by their own kids and children who are orphaned.

Another member of the association summed it up perfectly by saying, “What could be a better event than a child getting his/her parents?”
We hope this beautiful initiative is replicated all over the country.
