There are many types of bosses in the world. Workaholic bosses, for instance, practically live in the office and expect you to do the same. Then there’s the micromanager who needs constant updates. But if you’re really lucky, you might find an excellent employer like Alia Bhatt who gifted Rs.50 lakh each to her driver and helper because she wanted to show her appreciation for their hard work. On the flip side, there are those who indulge in domestic cruelty as happened in this case.
On 9 May, a 26-year-old Filipina maid named Lovely Acosta Baruelo made the mistake of leaving her employer’s furniture out in the sun. To ‘teach her a lesson’, he tied her to a tree in the scorching heat.
According to The Sun, the employer was concerned that his expensive furniture would fade if left outside so he decided to punish the maid for her mistake. A colleague of hers took photos of the incident and also requested help from The Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Consequently, The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh took swift action and repatriated the victim to Manila.
Once home, she said,
“Thank you so much to all those who helped me. I want to also ask help for the other Filipinos left there. They are the ones who helped me and uploaded my pictures. I am afraid for their safety. I hope they get rescued too.”
We sincerely hope that some action is taken against the employer as well so that his cruelty against domestic help comes to an end.
