In a recent interview, Sanya talked about what it was like working with Aamir Khan.
She was taken aback when she saw there were a total of 100 girls at the audition, including Fatima Sheikh, whom she knew from her role in ‘Chachi 420’.

They were all paired with various people in order to see when pair looked the best. After about a month, Sanya got a call saying she was selected along with Fatima Sheikh.
When asked what was the toughest part about playing one of the Phogat sisters, she was quick to respond with ‘wrestling’.
“The wrestling training was tough and our bodies used to ache a lot. It’s a contact sport, so I learnt about some muscles in my body, I didn’t know I had,”
She continued to praise the coach who trained both her and Fatima so well for the film.
Sanya’s dream to become an actor came about because of her fascination for award shows at a very young age. However, her journey wasn’t an easy one.
“I gave many auditions, yet I was jobless for three to four months. Finally, I got an ad and was paid Rs 5000. It felt good but the experience was bad.”
She also loved to dance and participated in the dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance’.
It’s great to see when all struggles finally culminate into something so wonderful. ‘Dangal’ was certainly a game changer for Sanya’s career in the film industry.
