BCCI Drops Sanjay Manjrekar Out Of Its Commentary Team, Twitter Lauds The Decision

Ex-cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar has been a part of BCCI’s commentary panel ever since he bid adieu to the game in 1996. But Manjrekar has always been surrounded by controversies.

The last time he hit headlines for wrong reasons was when he called Ravindra Jadeja, a ‘bits and pieces player’. Manjrekar also faced flak for questioning the credentials of Harsha Bhogle during the historic Pink-ball Test against Bangladesh in Kolkata.

Cut to a couple of months later, he has been removed from the commentary panel by BCCI. The reason behind his exit has, however, not been told but HT reports that he was probably removed as BCCI was not happy with his work. Even BCCI president Sourav Ganguly once targeted Manjrekar in a cryptic tweet:

“Maybe he will be left out from the IPL panel too. At this stage, it is not on top of our minds. But the fact is they are not happy with his work,” a source was quoted as saying by News 18.

He was reportedly absent during the first ODI between India and South Africa in Dharamshala which was washed without even a single ball bowled following rains. Other commentators were including Sunil Gavaskar, L Sivaramakrishnan, and Murali Kartik were present.

The news has come as a shock to many. But Indian cricket fans who were not really impressed with Manjrekar’s taunts and indecent commentary were happy that he’s been dropped.
