From 1993 To 2015, Here’s A Complete Timeline Of Sanjay Dutt’s Jail Term And Parole

On 12th March 1993, a series of 13 bombs explosions took place in Bombay, killing over 350 people and injuring more than 1400 innocents. That was one of the darkest day in India’s history.

One of the most popular Bollywood stars, Sanjay Dutt, was arrested for illegal possession of arms and ammunition like 9mm pistol and an AK-56 assault rifle, which were used in 1993 Bombay Terror Attacks.

1. April 19, 1993

Sanjay Dutt was arrested for the first time for illegal possession of arms under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA). He was released on bail, but later re-arrested. The actor spent 16 months in prison.

2. October 16, 1995

After spending nearly 16 months in jail, Sanjay Dutt again gets bail.

3. December, 1995

He was again arrested in December 1995 and was released on bail in April 1997.

4. November 27, 2006

TADA court delivering verdict in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case summons Sanjay Dutt.

5. November 28, 2006

Sanjay Dutt is found guilty under Arms Act but is acquitted in all cases related to TADA.

6. July 31, 2007

TADA court sentenced Dutt to six years’ rigorous imprisonment for illegal possession of weapons and cleared him of charges relating to the Mumbai blasts.

7. August 2, 2007

Sanjay Dutt re-arrested. Taken to Yerawada Jail in Pune.

8. August 20, 2007

Sanjay Dutt appealed against the sentence and was granted interim bail.

9. October 22, 2007

Sanjay Dutt was back in jail but again applied for bail.

10. November 27, 2007

Sanjay Dutt was granted bail by the Supreme Court.

11. March 21, 2013

The Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the TADA court but shortened the sentence to five years’ imprisonment. Sanjay Dutt was given a month to surrender before the authorities.

12. April 17, 2013

After Sanjay Dutt appeals for time to complete his films before surrendering, the Supreme Court gives him a period of four weeks to complete his movies before returning to jail. The judges said their decision was on “humanitarian grounds.”

13. May 16, 2013

Sanjay Dutt withdrew the mercy plea and surrendered to the Mumbai Police. Sanjay Dutt spent the night at Arthur Road Jail after surrendering at a Mumbai court.

14. May 22, 2013

Sanjay Dutt was moved to Pune’s Yerawada Jail from Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail early in the morning. He will be kept at a high security cell to complete his three-and-a-half-year prison term.

15. December 21, 2013

Sanjay Dutt was paroled and it was extended three times until March 2014, raising concern in Mumbai High Court and a proposal from the Government of Maharashtra to amend the law of parole.

16. December 24, 2014

Sanjay Dutt was out on a two weeks’ furlough by the Yerwada Central Jail authorities.

17. August 26, 2015

Sanjay Dutt is allowed to leave the prison on a 30 day parole for his daughter’s nose surgery. If this parole gets extended for another 60 days, the actor will be out with his family for next 3 months.

The reason for his last parole was given to be his wife’s ill health, whereas she was seen partying at a showbiz gathering at the same time.

Since December 2013, Snajay Dutt has spent almost 120 days out of jail and if this parole gets extended, he will be spending next three months with his family too.
