Since celebrities from the film industry are part of the public domain, they are often asked about topics that don’t directly pertain to art and cinema. While some of them are comfortable in stating their opinion, others are not choosing to refrain from commenting on other issues.
Recently, Telugu and Tamil film actor Samantha Akkineni spoke up about the backlash celebrities receive for having an opinion or remaining silent saying, “We’re entertainers, Not fact-checkers.”
She further added,
“Why are actors crucified for having an opinion about the important matters pertaining to the world? We are humans too and We make mistakes too. But canceling us for speaking out or not speaking out aloud on each & every topic is a bit unfair, don’t you think? Let us stick to what we do best .. making you fall in love with our performances.”
While a lot of people agreed with her, some tried to explain why it was important for celebrities to raise their voice in certain situations and also be careful of what they say as they could exert a lot of influence.
