The 13th South Asian Games are underway in Kathmandu and India is represented by 487 athletes across more than 15 disciplines. These talented sportspersons have bagged 252 medals (132 gold, 79 silver, 41 bronze) for the country placing it at the top spot ahead of host Nepal (165 medals) and Sri Lanka (197 medals).
After both the men’s and women’s Badminton teams clinched gold, it was time for the wrestlers and swimmers to shine on December 8. According to The Hindu, we won 7 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals in swimming.
In wrestling, Sakshi Malik dominated the 62kg category while Ravinder picked the top prize in the men’s freestyle 61kg by beating Pakistan’s M Bilal.

In addition, Pawan Kumar won in the men’s freestyle 86kg category and wrestler Anshu bagged gold in the women’s 59kg category in a mere 15 seconds, reports NDTV.

All in all, the wrestling contingent has secured gold in all 12 categories on offer at the games making us so proud. Gaurav Baliyan (74kg) and Anita Sheoran (68kg) will be competing in matches today.
Also, 15 of our boxers have reached the finals in their respective categories. We wish them all the very best.
