If you’ve been following the news lately, you’re probably aware that the economy isn’t doing so well right now. The GDP growth rate for the second quarter of 2019-20 is down to 4.5% and onion prices are skyrocketing.
The situation is so bad that thieves are targeting sacks of onions instead of cash or jewellery and shopkeepers are giving them on loan by keeping Aadhar card and silver jewellery as collateral!
Amidst all this, a photographer and blogger named Gopal MS captured a picture of a sack of onions lying ‘unprotected’ outside a Mumbai eatery near Sewri railway station, reports The Indian Express.
Believe it or not. Is this is how safe mumbai is? A sack of onions placed outside a restaurant to be picked up when it opens. pic.twitter.com/CVrLyKSlrV

The seemingly normal photo sparked a variety of reactions from Twitter. Some were surprised that something so expensive didn’t catch the eye of burglars while others spotted the irony in the fact that women in our country weren’t as safe as vegetables. A few people brought humour in the situation by poking fun at the eatery’s name (which includes ‘Delhi’).
The photo elicited a discussion on safety in the country. Take a look.
Irony: the hotel's name has Delhi in it😎

At today’s rate it must be worth 10000 bucks!

Hope the city is as safe to women as it is for onions. Can we vouch for that also please?

Earlier, a picture of children pretending to snap a selfie with a slipper went viral and opened up a discourse on true happiness.
