Recently, one of India’s most popular designers Sabyasachi Mukherjee dropped his new collection in collaboration with the clothing brand H&M. While there was a lot of excitement regarding the launch, there was a significant amount of disappointment too. From the entire collection getting sold out within minutes to exorbitant prices for basic desi clothing, many people expressed disappointment.
Earlier, what caught people’s eyes was a printed saree which can be found in most Indian grandmas’ wardrobes being sold for Rs 9999! And now, people have found another outfit, a brown shirt for Rs 2,999 and trousers for Rs 3,499, which look very similar to what autowale bhaiyas wear!
As was expected, hilarious memes and jokes rained down Twitter! Have a look:

After the backlash Sabyasachi X H&M faced in the past couple of days, the designer took to social media to post an apology. He addressed why he did the collaboration in the first place, the collection going out of stock, and his vision for young Indian designers.
“The entire motive behind this collaboration was wish fulfilment, for me. I know a lot of people are disappointed and I profoundly apologize for it,” he wrote.
He went on to add, “I want to take a moment to speak to the young fashion community in India. For the longest time, my pet peeve was that globally we are considered a manufacturing company. I always wanted to break that glass ceiling, but on my own terms and in my own way. Where Designed in India would stand strong alongside Made in India.”
