RSS Student Wing Demands Dhoti Kurta And Saree On Convocation Because ‘Robes Are British’

There’s been a plenty of issues leading to campus unrest all over the country. Lately there’s been yet another conflict of interest at Ranchi University over the dress code during convocation.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of RSS have demanded the dress code for convocation day be dhoti-kurta for boys and saree for girls since the traditional gown are an import of the British culture!

“It will be mandatory for all students getting degrees on this convocation day to wear a gown, otherwise they won’ t get their degrees on that day ,”

said RU vice-chancellor, Ramesh Pandey. As a result, students have found themselves a fix amidst the fight between the college authorities and the ABVP.

“We will stage a mass protest against the use of gowns on the day of convocation and halt the proceedings. India has been free for over 60 years now, but the varsity wants us to follow British culture, which is unacceptable.” – Atal Pandey, Ranchi convener, ABVP.

This, however, is not the first time that ABVP has caused political disturbances this year. In March 2016, ABVP threatened to protest MN Panini’s lecture at at the Central University of Jharkhand citing the reason that he has been a mentor to all ‘anti-national’ movements at JNU, Delhi.

The RSS wing students had also played a key role in the suspension of CUJ professor Shreya Bhattacharji for inviting Panini to address a gathering at Ranchi based University.

Let’s just hope for a safe graduation day for the students of Ranchi University.
