From the guests at the royal wedding to the entire ceremony itself, Prince Harry and Princess Meghan Markle’s wedding was a tear-jerking affair. Everything was exactly as it is supposed to be in a fairytale.
The one thing that drove viewers all around the world to tears, though, was the empty seat left besides Prince William in St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
Netizens theorised that the seat was left vacant for the Princes’ late mother, Princess Diana.
I like to think that the empty seat next to William in the Chapel was for Diana. I can't believe there could be any other reason.

However, as touching and emotional as it seems, the seat was not really left empty for Lady Diana. According to royal protocol, the seat in front of the Queen is always supposed to be left empty.
That being said, Princess Diana was remembered and honoured in a number of ways at the wedding. For starters, it was Prince Harry’s wish that her mother’s side of the family also is involved in his wedding equally.
According to The Daily Mail, Lady Diana’s sister, Lady Jane Fellowes attended the wedding and gave one of the readings because both the princes are close to her kids. They played together when they were little and wanted Aunt Jane to give the reading.

Even the chosen hymn ‘Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer’ was one of her dearest hymns. It was sung at her funeral and her 10th death anniversary.
Lastly, and most importantly, Lady Diana’s aquamarine ring was spotted on Meghan’s finger during the reception hosted by Prince of Wales.

Even after all these years, their mother’s presence and influence on both – Prince William and Prince Harry’s life is seen everywhere, consciously or subconsciously.
Although Princess Diana wasn’t really with us to witness this lovely day of her son’s marriage, she was with us in spirit and she always remains etched in our hearts.
