The restaurant industry is a fast-paced one. Chefs and servers are both running against the clock to make sure there is piping hot (and delicious) food on our tables. But sometimes, mistakes are inevitable. While the usual response to a waiter messing up is annoyance and anger (from the customer as well as the manager), this incident comes as a breath of fresh air.
According to BBC News, a diner at the Hawksmoor Manchester steakhouse in the UK ordered a £260 (Rs. 23,000) Bordeaux (red wine). The server accidentally served a 2001 bottle of Chateau Le Pin Pomerol that was for £4,500 (Rs. 4 lakh) on the menu.
When the restaurant management realised that a goof up had been made, this is how they reacted.
To the customer who accidentally got given a bottle of Chateau le Pin Pomerol 2001, which is £4500 on our menu, last night – hope you enjoyed your evening! To the member of staff who accidentally gave it away, chin up! One-off mistakes happen and we love you anyway 😉

They even posted a side-by-side shot of both the wine bottles for everyone to see.
THEY LOOK PRETTY SIMILAR OK?! 😉 pic.twitter.com/JWFW81cbe8

The tweet has since gone viral and garnered 7,000 retweets and 42,000 likes. Some netizens are joking that they’d like to reserve a table at the said restaurant so that they can also ‘accidentally’ enjoy an expensive vintage.
The founder, Will Beckett, was quoted saying that the staffer is brilliant and,
“I am going to tease her for this when she stops being so mortified.”
People are applauding the owner for handling the situation in a calm and mature manner.
As someone who works in hospitality, bless you for being understanding and not flying off the handle at the poor lad/lass.

Excellent handing of an unfortunate (or fortunate for that lucky customer) situation. I'm really impressed by this refreshing attitude towards simple human error. I also hope the member got a generous tip!

Wouldn’t expect you to handle this in any other way… first class restaurant and culture 👌🏻

Now that’s a good employer! Mistakes do happen, sadly some employees aren’t as forgiving and only see the value of what was lost. I’m certain your understanding and forgiving manner towards the member of your staff will win you more customers!
