Pune Restaurant Owner Finds A Steel-worthy Solution To Maharashtra Plastic Ban

There is absolutely no doubt about the fact that plastic pollution poses one of the biggest challenges faced by the world right now. Countries and governments have been forced to rethink their policies over the looming threat and perhaps that is why Maharashtra saw a state-wide ban on the non-biodegradable material.

Abiding by the rules, a restaurant owner in Pune has taken a significant step towards the betterment of the environment and we will tell you how.

Playing his part in reducing the use of plastic, the restaurant owner Ganesh Shetty has come up with an idea of delivering food in steel lunch boxes to his customers. The steel boxes are being used instead of the plastic containers and should be returned after delivery.

That’s not all. According to TOI, he has also found a way to deal with the ‘takeaway’ customers. People who opt for a takeaway has to deposit a sum of Rs. 200 which will be returned when the steel box is given back. Legit, isn’t it?

While Ganesh is pretty much in support of the government’s decision, he feels that people should have been given more time to come up with alternative measures.

“We welcome government’s decision as it’s in favour of the environment but they should have provided us some more time to arrange an alternative. Apps like Zomato & Swiggy have stopped working due to lack of delivery options. Customers are also facing inconvenience.”

This deserves a big round of applause. It is with all our combined efforts that we can reach the goal of a plastic-free world. So, how are you playing your part?
