There Are Only 4 Primary Personality Types In The World, Claims New Research

personality

At one point or the other in our lives, we’ve wondered about the meaning of life. Why are we here? How long are we here? What are we supposed to do? Why us? And most importantly, “Who am I?” The last question plagued me for quite a while as it should be one of the easiest questions to answer, right? Who else could answer it better than me? However, it’s not a question that can be answered with quite that ease.

Many have tried figuring it out. Over the years, scientists have tried coming up with many ways to classify the human personality types.

Like the Myers Briggs classification of personalities, which classifies it into 16 categories.

However, a new study suggests that human personality types can actually be categorised into four.

A research team led by Northwestern Engineering’s Luis Amaral has come to the conclusion that the clusters of personality types are as follows:

1. Average.

The most common personality type, those who come under this category are more likely to score high in neuroticism. That is, they are more likely than average to be moody and to experience such feelings as anxiety, worry, fear, anger, frustration, envy, jealousy, guilt, depressed mood, and loneliness. They also identify more as an extravert than an introvert. Also, ‘openness’ is not one of their strong suits.

2. Reserved.

People who are generally emotionally stable, but are neither open nor neurotic, come under this category. Level-headed and not particularly outgoing are two traits that such people have. However, they are also agreeable and conscientious, hard workers.

3. Self-centred.

Don’t go by the name. People who classify as self-centred under this study are generally outgoing extroverts who aren’t particularly open. They are also agreeable or conscientious. And though they may be difficult to get along with, they are the life of the party.

4. Role models.

Those who score high on all counts except for neuroticism are those who come under this category. They are natural born leaders and emotionally stable. Fairly open and conscientious, these people are also hard workers.

Despite these classifications, the study also claims that our personalities are set in stone. It evolves or mutates over time, given the complex nature of humans. The research is based on data collected from over 1.5 million questionnaire respondents.

So, which one do you think you are?
