Rakhi Sawant Recalls Her Days Of Struggle, Reveals She Had Only 1 Bowl Of Dal Every Day

Earlier today, Rakhi Sawant was in the news for calling out MLA Raghav Chadha for his allegedly misogynist comment against her. Several Bollywood celebs stood up for Sawant and tweeted that she was a hard-working individual.

Rakhi recently gave people a deeper insight into her life and journey when she opened up about how she made it in the film industry. HT reports that she first auditioned for her role in Main Hoon Na starring Shah Rukh Khan. Sawant thanked filmmaker Farah Khan for the work opportunity.

Speaking about her initial days of struggle, Rakhi says, “I used to give my best and to look slim and fit, I used to have only one bowl of dal every day. However, things weren’t looking so great. But one fine day, I got a call from Farah Khan Madam’s office, and they called me for an audition at Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies’ office and things changed from there.

She quips, “As soon as I kept the phone, I lost consciousness. My mother gave me another bowl of dal and that’s when I got into my senses and started preparing for my audition.”

However, she explained that she attempted to hide her clothes from her neighbors at the chawl.

“I was told that I would have to look glamorous as the character was such. But in the chawl that I was staying at, you couldn’t step out in such clothes. So, I asked my mother what should I do? She gave me a set of curtains, which I wrapped around my glamorous clothes and went for the audition,” she revealed.

She adds that Farah showed faith in her and once the team liked her audition, she was offered the role in Main Hoon Na that kick-started her Bollywood career.
