Rakesh Roshan Lists Reasons That Are Leading To Bollywood’s Failure & South Films’ Success

South Indian actors ruling over the box office with massive hits like ‘RRR’ and ‘Baahubali’, people boycotting Bollywood actors, and their movies doing shockingly bad business are some of the reasons why everyone has started talking about how Bollywood needs to up their game.

Earlier, Boney Kapoor reasoned why South films are better than Hindi movies. Even Kangana Ranaut lauded the South movie industry and said they shouldn’t allow Bollywood to corrupt them.

Now, actor, producer, and director Rakesh Roshan listed the reasons that are leading to the failure of Bollywood.

In an interview, the ‘Koi… Mil Gaya’ director said that Hindi films are not working at the box office as people are making films that they and their friends like to watch, reported Hindustan Times.

“They are picking subjects that appeal to a very minuscule section of the audience. A big chunk of the audience cannot relate to it.”

Moreover, the kind of songs used isn’t adequate to make someone a superstar like it used to be earlier.

“Another major problem is that the songs are going out of the film. Earlier, there used to be 6 songs. These songs would help the actors turn into superstars; becoming a superstar is very difficult at present.”

“You see the songs of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. Their songs used to be such an integral part of the movie and they played a huge role in making their film a super-duper hit. Take ‘Pushpa’ or ‘RRR’ for example. Each and every song became a craze. So, we should learn.”

Giving examples of  South films like ‘Pushpa’, Rakesh said they are sticking to the roots while catering to the commercial aspects of the movies.

“If you see films like RRR and Baahubali, they have beaten-to-death stories. Baahubali is very similar to Karan Arjun. But it was presented on a bigger scale. Even the songs were larger-than-life and hence people were enticed. Aur hamare Bollywood filmmakers ko pata nahin kya ho gaya hai.”

According to him, Bollywood filmmakers are not making movies that the audiences like.

“They have drifted away from the roots of Indianness. They try to make so-called ‘modern cinema’ but it works with only 1 percent of the population. It does not cater to B and C centers. So, if you pick subjects that cater to the C, B, and A centers and present them in a very novel way, it’ll appeal to everyone.”

Seems like the Bollywood vs South films debate isn’t going to end soon. What do you have to say about Rakesh’s views?
