Rahul Dravid Standing In A Queue Like A Common Man Is The Gentleman We Need To Look Up To

As a child, I remember having a huge crush on Rahul Dravid, not only because I understood what an exceptional player he was and that he played for the team more than anything else, which earned him the title of “The Wall”, but also because of the way he smiled his beautiful, genuine, charming smile.

Rahul Dravid has been and always will be the most respected person to ever walk the field. Even when he was playing with Sachin Tendulkar who is addressed as the ‘God of Cricket’, he made his mark like no other.

The reason for this is that Rahul Dravid was never one to conform to the VIP culture. The man has no airs despite being a demigod for cricket fans everywhere. The man is as humble as they come and does not mind standing in queues, waiting for his turn at a public event.

He has no qualms roaming around enjoying nature like a common man without an ounce of arrogance in his being and it makes me think, what did we ever do to deserve this gem of a person?

Although he has retired from the field for quite some time now, yet he never fails to be an inspiration for everyone, teaching them to never forget their roots, no matter how much fame or public admiration you get.

People even have their own accounts of meeting Rahul Dravid and along with being a wonderful human being, he is a doting father who never fails to turn up for a Parent-Teacher meeting.

It is not common knowledge that Rahul Dravid has gone above and beyond to fulfil, what he considered to be his duties towards his hometown.

A prominent example of that would be the time he played for his old club in Bangalore after his retirement helping them win by scoring a century. A fan who watched the match live said,

Days after Rahul Dravid’s retirement, he arrived at Bangalore (Dravid’s Home). His childhood club was in a bad situation and needed a victory in order to not get relegated to a lower division. Head coach of the team requested RD to play for them and guess what, he accepted the offer, played the match and the club got the required points to remain in the same division. I am not sure of the exact figure, but RD scored a century. There were just around 15 to 20 spectators on the ground. The venue was HAL sports club. He never made any fuss about playing for a team that is so out of his league, he never dragged media attention, he never complained about anything not just during this game, but in his entire career.

He even chatted on Skype with a cancer patient, who was one of his biggest fans, for over an hour and even apologised for not being able to meet him personally.
