Rahul Bose Showcases Real Life Stories Of Indian Women Who Took Life By Its Horns!

There’s no dearth of heroes in our lives, be it reel or real. When one such reel-life hero, actor Rahul Bose, decided to tell the story of a real life hero, Poorna Malavath, it was pure magic on screen. But then again, Poorna’s story is nothing short of an unbelievable adventure.

In 2014, at only 13 years and 11 months old, Poorna became the youngest girl in the world to scale Mount Everest.

How a girl from a small village in Nizamabad district of Telangana managed this Herculean feat is a story worth knowing. Maybe that’s what prompted Rahul Bose to turn it into a movie that could inspire the millions who watch it.

Poorna is an inspiring film directed by and starring Rahul Bose as Dr. R. S. Praveen Kumar, with Aditi Inamdar as the young mountaineer Malavath Poorna. The film was screened at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival, where it got nominated on the festival’s list of ’30 Best Feature Films’ and was declared tax-free in several states of India.

But that wasn’t the end of the road for Poorna or Rahul. There are so many women across India who are leading their own inspiring success stories. Rahul and Poorna wanted to meet with these real-life heroes and share their stories with the world too.

An association with &pictures gave birth to Sapnon Ki Udaan: Poorna, an episodic series where Rahul and Poorna met with some real-life superwomen to uncover their stories of true grit.

So who all did they encounter in their search for inspiration? Let’s get you an intro!

1. Kanchan Daniel: The ‘shameless’ cancer patient!

Look at Kanchan and you’ll see a 20 something woman who’s beautiful, smart, a clinical psychologist and the lead singer of an indie band. But underneath all that lies a heartbreaking tragic story. Diagnosed with cancer at 17, she has fought a long battle against her illness and emerged victorious.

She calls herself a “shameless cancer patient”. But hers is the story of a brave survivor!

2. Ayesha Aziz: Have wings; will fly!

Becoming the country’s youngest student pilot at 16 has been the unstoppable Ayesha Aziz’s calling card. For a Muslim girl from Kashmir to fight against all adversities and societal pressure, and accomplish such an achievement is rather commendable.

Here’s Ayesha’s story of soaring high over obstacles:

3. Jemimah Rodrigues

She’s 17, the captain of the Mumbai U19 women’s cricket team, Mumbai Seniors and Mumbai U23. She managed to score 80% in her board exams despite studying only for six days. All for the love of cricket, a game she is brilliant at. Enough said, right? But Jemimah’s not yet had enough laurels in her hat, or shall I say helmet? She’s already a part of the Indian cricket team and will be soon playing in South Africa!

Her story doesn’t just inspire you, it hits the message for a six!

4. Anju Maudgal Kadam

It has often been remarked that Indian women look their best when they’re adorned in the nine yards of a gorgeous saree. A simple conversation between Anju Maudgal Kadam and her friend about wearing more sarees soon turned into the #100SareePact. And now, it’s rekindling the love for elegant dressing among young women!

Check out how Anju’s ‘saree’ state of affairs came to be and maybe it’ll inspire you to show some love to the sarees in your wardrobe too!

5. Usha Prajapati

Usha’s story is one of humble beginnings. This daughter of a car mechanic from Bihar barely knew English when she stepped foot into the National Institute of Design. Today, she’s woven a name for herself as a textile designer of international acclaim and runs an NGO that empowers other women to weave happiness in their lives too.
