The nation came together to celebrate PV Sindhu‘s remarkable win at the Rio Olympics 2016. The ace badminton player bagged a silver medal after giving a cut throat competition to Carolina Marin from Spain, who bagged a Gold.
Everyone is talking about the rise of better sports culture in our country and the number of little kids who will think about pursuing badminton as a professional career will be tremendous. But on a sad note, some parts of India are still obsessing over baseless issues.
Since Sindu defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the semi-finals, people have been increasingly searching for her caste on Google.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were the top states searching for her caste instead of her game and a remarkable win.
After the finals, her caste search topped Google India and left her badminton career behind.
There are more people who want to know about her caste than her badminton skills.
Twitter was furious and these tweets state that clearly.

Shame! While Sindhu was struggling for gold, Indians were googling her caste https://t.co/TC7yavxECc

No gender, no caste, no religion and no state, only one thing i.e. india. When it comes to medal tally, there is only country's name.#sindhu

So if you google PV Sindhu, Google fills that up with caste. I don't know where to bang my head.

For a country that talks about women breaking records and making us proud, these results are a shame! It saddens me to see that some people need to know her caste to accept her achievements and brilliance.
