These days there’s nothing you can’t buy. From a yacht to diapers to even mail order wives in some places. You think of it and it’s already for sale. All packaged and ready to go (maybe not the mail order wives though, that one probably shouldn’t be delivered wrapped in plastic). But I never thought I’d live to see the day packaged air gets sold in airports.
Journalist Damian Christie probably didn’t think he would either, but he was in for a shock when he saw just that at a duty-free shop at Auckland International Airport.
And guess how much it costs? A pack of four bottles will set you back by approximately ₹7300. However, they do offer a discount of ₹1500, so I guess we should cheer?
Also, they’re not just any air. They’re ‘Pure Fresh New Zealand Air’ is harvested above the snow line among New Zealand’s famous Southern Alps.
According to the Kiwiana website, the company selling the product, each canister contains enough air for 130 to 140 deep breaths and comes with a specially designed cap that allows inhalation through mouth and nose.
They also describe their harvesting process as such:
“Harvested on the high ridges above the New Zealand snow line. The Fresh Air that is captured and hand filled into the Kiwiana Air canister is naturally some of the purest in the world.”
Fid they say “hand filled”? How even?!
The captured fresh air then passes through a triple filtration process, removing even the tiniest of materials.
Damian couldn’t believe we live in a time when air is being bottled and sold at such atrocious prices:
You’ve got to be shitting me. Also, $98, so not exactly a cute prank gift. pic.twitter.com/se4fkHUXRW

Neither could his Twitter followers who had some interesting reactions:
WHAT. We have hit peak capitalism!

I wonder if air bottling would need resource consent in the same way as water bottling does?

Isn’t this just *really* expensive huffing? How is this allowed?

You'd better buy some while you can. There may be none left when you get back.
