Tripura Puppets Discuss Coronavirus Symptoms & Precautions In Awareness Video

As the new coronavirus is spreading, so is misinformation surrounding it. Which is why the World Health Organization (WHO) is sharing reliable updates on social media including TikTok. In addition, Kerala cops have created videos on hand-washing and breaking the chain that are both fun and informative.

According to Hindustan Times, Tripura Puppet Theatre (TPT) has also released an awareness video featuring “Putul Nach” (puppet dance) that discusses the symptoms and precautions to be taken by everyone in these difficult times.

The video is in Bengali with English subtitles. The handmade puppets urge people to maintain high levels of hygiene and consult a doctor in case of coughing, fever, difficulty in breathing and fatigue.

The Indian Express quoted Prabhitangshu Das (program executive at Doordarshan and one of the founders of TPT) saying,

“We observe March 21 (World Puppet Day) every year through puppetry. We had our event fixed at Muktadhara Auditorium at Agartala this year with a new puppet theatre for children. But then coronavirus precautions came and we canceled our event. We thought we would go for a street puppet show instead but the local administration didn’t grant us permission due to section 144 which was imposed to avoid mass gathering amidst precautions for the disease.”

“Since we are unable to perform live this year, we have chosen to go online this year through social media.”

It is in our best interest to avoid mass gatherings and practice social distancing during the lockdown so that we can effectively fight this pandemic.
