As the years pass by, women’s safety in our country only seems to be getting worse. We keep making countless sacrifices – like avoiding walking alone at night, public transport, and even meeting new people – just to ensure basic safety. Even dating apps have turned out to be a dangerous thing for some women to use.
I say this because one woman in Pune was allegedly raped by a man whom she matched with on an online dating app and was out on a date with.
The two matched on the dating app on December 25, began chatting, and agreed on a date for the next day, reports Pune Mirror.
According to Times Now, the accused met the 26-year-old woman in a hotel in Hinjewadi on December 26. As per the complaint filed by the woman, the guy invited her to dinner and forced her to consume alcohol. Then, the woman insisted on going back home and was even waiting to fetch a rickshaw. The guy offered to drop her home but instead took her to his home.
At his house, he allegedly beat her up and raped her. When she resisted his attempts, he slapped and kicked her. She was left unconscious on the floor.
The screams of the woman were heard by the guy’s father, who was present at home, and the neighbours. He rushed to his room to find the woman unconscious and beside his son. His son was found injured, but it is suspected that he injured himself with a knife, presumably in an attempt to cover up his crime.
The guy’s father and the neighbours took the two to the hospital and the former informed the police about the incident. The guy has been arrested and booked under several sections including kidnapping, rape, provocation, and causing hurt.
Even as 2020 nears its end, women’s safety still remains a questionable subject in our country.
