Pune Is The Best City To Live In According To The Government Ease Of Living Index

India is a widespread country with various communities living all across the nation. This intermingling of cultures has created diverse environments among cities that are just a few hours away. Sometimes that’s a good thing and sometimes it’s not. And earlier the only way to know that was by either physically going to that place or gathering info from vague sources. But those days are over because now there’s an official list from the Government of India, saying which cities are great to live in and which are not.

According to Times Now, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has conducted a nationwide survey over a year and the results are finally in.

Pune ranked first in the Ease of Living Index released by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. It was followed by Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai. The rest of the top 10 spots were covered by Tirupati, Chandigarh, Thane, Raipur, Indore, Vijaywada and Bhopal. Despite being the capital of India, it was disappointing to see at New Delhi 65. And it was even more disappointing to know that Kolkata had refused to participate in the survey.

The Indian Express reported that the survey was done on the basis of parameters like governance, social institutions, economic and physical infrastructure. Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that,

“it was announced in June 2017 to rank 116 cities and launched in January 2018 as a litmus test to help assess the progress made in urban environments through various initiatives.”

The process involved real-time monitoring on data that was submitted by the cities. The survey involved 10,000 documents during the secondary audit, 14,000 units during the physical audit and data acquired from over 60,000 citizens. The evaluation was done on a 100-point scale across the 78 indicators with the institutional and social sectors carrying 25 points each. Additionally, the economic section was worth 5 points and the physical section was worth 45 points.

Going by the list’s namesake, it’ll certainly help people and industries to choose what’s the best place to live peacefully. And it’ll act as a wake up call for the cities who’re at the bottom of the list. So, where did your city rank and are you happy with its position?
