Pulwama Martyr Pradeep Singh’s Wife Was On The Phone With Him And Heard The Blast

Horrifying and heartrending stories continue to surface in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack. Yet, one that pulled at our heartstrings the most was the last phone call CRPF jawan Pradeep Singh Yadav made to his wife, Neeraj Devi. She was on the phone with him when he was unexpectedly martyred in the J & K attack on February 14.

The CRPF jawan was speaking to his wife when the suicide bomber rammed his SUV into the CRPF convoy, killing 44 including him. Neeraj Devi hails from Ajan Sukhsenpur village in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh.

She revealed-

“I was talking to my husband on the phone when I heard a deafening sound from the other side, seconds after which there was complete silence and the call got disconnected,” she said.

“Sensing something untoward has happened, I made several attempts to know about his well-being, but everything was over for me,” she said to TOI. “I later received another phone call, this time from the CRPF control room, informing me about my husband’s death in a blast,” she added.

Yadav is survived by Neeraj Devi and their two Supriya and Sona, aged 10 and 2 respectively. They happened to be Kanpur when they were informed of his death. Neeraj hastened to Ajan Sukhsenpur to receive Pradeep’s mortal that will be delivered there today.

“He (Pradeep) was very fond of Sona and when he last spoke to me on Thursday, he inquired about her well-being… he spoke about her for nearly 10 minutes,” said a bereft Neeraj. Another family member shared, “A few minutes after Neeraj spoke to Pradeep, we heard her screams. She broke down after receiving the phone call from CRPF control room, which confirmed the death of Pradeep.”

The jawan had visited home earlier in the month. Pradeep’s maternal cousin Sonu, added-

“Though we are proud of the sacrifice my brother made, deep inside we are angry too. It was for the government to decide what action should be taken against the terrorists. Now, we want action and not assurances,” said Sonu.

It seems jawan Pradeep Yadav left a spate of fond memories in the hearts of those who knew him best. His school teachers got a touch nostalgic when they shared that he was a really good student who wanted to serve the nation from a very young age.

We pray his soul is at peace, just as we pray none of our gallant army-men lose their lives to terror attacks.
