Woman Gets Married With A Golden Bionic Arm, Spreads An Important Message On Body Positivity

So many women in the world struggle with body image issues. Since our early days we are fed that perfect image of an ‘ideal body’. And because it is ingrained into us so deeply, it almost becomes an aspiration for so many girls. It can be insecurities about a disability, a physical deformity or even weight and body type issues.

This inspiring story though, will help you break free from all those shackles and flaunt your body with confidence.

Rebekah Marine a model who was missing a part of her right arm, decided to flaunt it by wearing a glittery gold prosthetic on her wedding day. She usually wears a black one, but chose to show it off instead of hiding it.

The 31-year-old decided to accessorise the white gown with an arm of gold, because why the hell not!? She married a 32-year-old medical student Jared Paster and the gold arm looked absolutely gorgeous.

Talking about how she got around to doing it, according to Indy100 she said,

“I knew when I got engaged that I wanted a wedding arm – I wanted to do something special. The whole point of wearing it was to draw attention to it. I wanted people to see it and notice it because I am proud of where I am right now.”

She said the original idea was to go with the white theme and get a white arm, however she realised that it may not stand out as much. She finally decided on a golden arm and then picked out this shade.

The arm was glittery and even shone in the sun.

Rebekah debuted it on her wedding and everyone was in awe because most people didn’t even know that prosthetics could be customised. There was a lot of pressure because with one hand she held her father and with the prothetic one a bouquet. She said,

“The entire time I was walking I was fearing I was going to drop it or not be able to hold it but it all worked out. It ended up being the best day ever. It was perfect. Growing up I feared marriage because I feared everyone looking at me so it’s awesome to see how far I’ve come.”

Something blue was so last season. The new thing is something golden!

Rebekah has starred in campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger and Nordstrom and is a motivational speaker and tried to increase inclusivity in the world. She is a hard supporter of body positivity and is trying to spread awareness about her and others’ disability.

She wore her golden prosthetic arm at her honeymoon in Mexico and said that people stared in awe at it. It drew a lot of attention and got people having a conversation about the movement, which is the whole point, right!?

Fabulous, isn’t she!?

Growing up, Rebekah says that she lived in a “bubble” by not having to deal with any discrimination or bullying due to her arm. However, as she grew older people started asking her about it which heightened her insecurities.

From being insecure about her body, to flaunting it and showing it off proudly to the world, she sure has come a long way.

This is the body positive future we need. You go gurl, we’re rooting for you!
